CERT Training |
Spring
2009 |

CERT Training
in the Classroom
Before Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members can
practice hands-on skills, they must first learn the basics from
classroom instruction. CERT members learn how to put out small
fires, perform basic medical operations, light search and rescue
and learn about disaster psychology.

Lifting Heavy Objects
Cribbing was used to lift heavy cement slabs so patients (in
this case, dummies) could be removed from underneath.

Medical Operations
A realistic touch was added with volunteer "victims" who
acted out different injuries. All of the CERT participants
passed the class and are ready to help their neighbors in the
event of a catastrophic event! |

Fire Safety
CERT Members learn how to operate a fire extinguisher and
practice putting out small fires.

Final Practical
CERT Members get to put their knowledge to the test during
the CERT final practical in which they practiced light search
and rescue at Station 83's Training Tower, put out small fires,
lifted heavy cement slabs using their cribbing skills and
practiced triaging patients. Lake Stevens Fire, Marysville Fire
District, Arlington Fire Department and North County Fire/EMS
joined efforts during the final, bringing CERT Members from all
over Snohomish County together.

Rescued from the Tower
CERT Members carry a patient out of the tower on a
backboard. The patient was taken to the triaging station and
tagged according to the severity of their injuries.
